Osaka, Japan Tour 11/20-27/2013
Wow, an amazing run of a spin to Osaka for my first time! Headed out with Kumu Hula, Aunty Ululani Zuttermeister Black, Aunty Lin Hong for a quick week to Japan as I could hardly wait.
In awe of the beautiful city of Osaka, with it's fall color leaves on the trees, beautifully landscaped gardens and historical sights with amazing history, indoor and outdoor malls that have fantastic bargains, stunning sunsets in the evenings, alot to take in for my first time across the oceans, away from my home in California.
For me, the people were the best part of my trip, besides hanging with Aunty Ululani and Aunty Lin! The crowd was wonderful, giving, and a culture of a society and community that I've never seen appreciate the Hawaiian Music and Hula so much.
My visit consisted of a two hour Ukelele Workshop with beginning to intermediate level, at which two songs that we learned off my albums would be performed by the group for a later performance.
A quick gig at the Mauloa Cafe in dowtown Osaka, with some great pupus, awesome company and met some great musicians too! Nozomi, Emma, Kimo Aalona(cousin),Yoshio a great guitarist and some pretty darn good hula dancers too!
Day before our trip out back to Hawaii, Aunty Ululani and I performed with San Sei Leilani Yamada, Halau Studio Nani Aloha at the Ramada Inn for a celebration and the haumana performed, along with my ukelele students, an enthusiastic and slick group of troopers.
Humbled by this opportunity to travel, meet new audiences and fans of Hawaiian music and hula, this really is my absolute most favorite thing to do.
An immense and warm mahalo to the Aunty's for inviting me on this trip, u RoCk~
